Sunday Scrolls: January 31st

By Kaylea

You asked for more fun finds, and this week, we delivered. If you’re looking for the most magnificent mocktail, we’re whipping one up for you below. And we have a fantastic new read we couldn’t wait to tell you about, plus a plethora of exciting links in the Try It section at the bottom of the post. We’re so glad you’re here!!

Make It.

I know we’re at the end of dry January, but it’s always nice to have a new mocktail recipe handy. Jon and I will mix up a mocktail for a mid-week date night, where we set Grey up with a 20-minute show or a hot wheels obstacle course and sneak in an adult conversation to recap the day. Making a drink together feels like a nice ritual to end the work day and celebrate a few minutes of calm ?.

This one can be altered however you like – play with it until you find your perfect combo. Here’s ours:

  • Buda health shots or any wellness shot from your local grocer. These Buda shots are the Zen Ginger variety, but we also love the Blue Algae.
  • Juice of 1 lemon and 1 mandarin (if you have them handy and are feeling fancy).
  • Seltzer water, diet ginger ale or other diet soda. We found a creamsicle seltzer that was so delicious with this!
  • Freshly grated ginger, a shake or two of cinnamon.
  • Garnish with crystallized ginger.

Read It.

I could cry with gratitude this book is so. good. Someone sent me a message the other day and asked how every book I read seems to garner a high praise from me. And that’s not true at all. But what is true, is that I read 2-3 books a week and only share the very best one. I don’t like sharing “bad” reviews of anything. That’s not why you’re here. I love the job of sifting out the mediocre, and really highlighting the best of the best, with all things featured in Scrolls.

The Dutch House is so exquisitely written and beautifully developed, and the characters are so special, that days after I finished the final page, I wish I could start it over again. I loved that it is written from a male perspective, and yet it is so delicate, so empathetic, and so moving. You will love this one and want all of your people to read it, too. I know it. 9.8/10 ⭐️.

Watch It.

Sometimes you’re in the mood for a show that you can completely lose yourself in and cash in on a bit of escapism to end a long day. Other times, you’re craving a new learning experience. Something you can really pay attention to and walk away with new information for your next family gathering, or in case you’re ever a Jeopardy contestant ?. This show is the latter, and Jon and I both thoroughly enjoyed it. Not to mention, we bought our current house from two retired CIA agents so it’s been fun to think about what their lives might have been like ??‍♀️. Warning: it absolutely heightens your awareness of the digital dust we all leave scattered everywhere, and how much goes on behind the veil of “normal” life.

Spycraft

Listen to it.

If you’re short on time, but want a lesson with a big impact – particularly for women in business – this is a good one. The story she tells about always feeling the need to be “on”, and then going back to work so soon after having her child really resonated with me. I hope it does for you, too.

Feel It.

I could have shared so many more. The gems were abundant this week! But I chose the ones I hope will mean the most to you. Can we do small wins in the comments, please?? Mine were: saying no to things that didn’t serve me, finding patience when I normally would have lost it, and finally making returns that had been sitting around for too long ?.

Try It.

Have you heard of Blue Zones? They are longevity hotspots, and I am wildly interested in the research that comes out of them. Here’s the latest from a Blue Zone in Japan & why people there live the longest in the world.

I shared a personal treasure on instagram and received the kindest comments – *thank you*. This is the frame it’s going to live in! What keepsake would you want captured by The Heirloomist?!

Interesting perspective! Food isn’t good or bad, and neither are you.

I set an intention to document a few seconds of each day in 2021 and one month in, I’m still on track ?. In case you missed it, we shared it here.

These heart earrings are on major sale and are not only only trend, but would be the sweetest gift for Galentine’s Day!

How fun are these Valentines for little ones?! Grey is deciding between these buggy beauties (they are so unique!!) and these high flying favors!

These resiliency tips are actionable and effective. Which hit the spot for you?

Here is the foot mask you’ve seen all over TikTok. It works ?. I like this one because it comes in a 2-pack. One for you, one for a friend. If you save both for you, make sure you space them out by at least a month!

Jon grabbed a couple of these polos for spring and they are the softest shirts he owns. Did you know that two couples on vacation who never wanted to leave invented the concept of Tommy Bahama? I love it.

Do you like a mix of salty and sweet? I do too, but I’m not sure this is the right combo ?. What were they thinking?!

Grey’s Auntie CC got him this robot for his birthday and he is enamored with it. If you have a child in your life, I can guarantee this will win best gift for any upcoming birthday or holiday surprise ??. (5,000 5 star reviews!)

Can’t wait to try this new-to-me gluten free chocolate chip cookie recipe. This one has an egg in it so if you’re vegan ??‍♀️, try substituting 3 t. of Just Egg.

I'd love to leave you with this today: If you are here, you are a person who celebrates other people. You are a champion of hard work, you seek to lift others up, and create a community of kindness. I feel so glad to know someone like that, and to be the recipient of your friendship. Thank you for taking time to read, and to be here with us! We appreciate you more than you know!
