January, particularly after the holidays, can make for a pretty down month. We’re keeping it short and sweet today with easy, no-cost, actionable steps you can take right this very second to add a jolt of joy to your day:

  1. Sit in the sunshine (proven to release serotonin and help you feel calm and focused)
  2. Grounding practice (“earthing” your bare feet outside helps to reduces stress + inflammation)
  3. Breathwork (try one deeeep inhale followed by one more quick inhale, then out through the mouth)
  4. Gratitude attitude (write or say out loud a list of people/ places/ things you’re grateful for)
  5. Move your body (run up the stairs, walk around the block, gently stretch to change your brain state)
  6. Listen to your favorite song (change the mood by changing the station, bonus points if you dance!)
  7. Make a cup of joy (brew a mug of tea, or make a turmeric latte, something warming and nurturing)
  8. Tidy up (when we have a clean space, we have a clear mind)
  9. Give someone a genuine compliment (write a review for a small business, or send a text to a friend)
  10. Add to your goals list (give yourself something to work for and a reason for HOPE)

i feel like you might not be with me on step 2, with winter and all 😅, but i assure you, of the 10, it might be my very favorite. and the freezing feet only lends to the presence you’re going to feel and the gratitude afterwards getting back where it’s warm. see what we did there? you’re knocking out 3 or 4 and on your way to a joyful day before you know it!
