Sunday Scrolls: November 7th

It’s the end of an era for the Nixon Pack. Our sweet Chancellor (affectionately dubbed Boob by my Grandpa Darlin’) passed away this week. I can’t remember a time when we didn’t have dogs. We adopted our first of five, Jolea, while we were dating in college, and found our way to five rescue pups . It’s been 17 years of J O Y, plus an abundance of love and snuggles (x5). These pups went from New York to Chicago, back to NY, then back to Chicago again. And 3 of our sweet babies even made it to Texas with us. It would be impossible to explain the void in our hearts, and in our home. I know you know the feeling if you’ve ever suffered this great loss. Thank you for being with us today – putting Scrolls together has forced me to find the good, and

Making.

EASY VEGAN FUDGE – no bake & refined sugar-free!
See the recipe, here!

Reading.

A friend of ours let me borrow this before he’d even read it, which, I have to say, is the ultimate kindness. One of the first questions I ask someone when I meet them is what kind of books they like to read. You can learn so much about a person that way, and when you share from your own collection, even more. This is a follow-up to the original Nudge, which the authors explain they felt compelled to re-write chapters that needed updating. So much of the wisdom makes you think, why didn’t I think of that?! And has you looking at the trajectory of your decision-making in a whole new light. It’s easy to understand (which surprised me given the authors laundry list of accolades and awards), gives actionable tips to take control of your decision making, and is a thought-provoking, better off for reading it, kind of book. 9.0⭐️

Watching.

I felt like this could have been shorter. It stretched on a bit, and in parts, lost my attention. But I’m still sharing because look at this lineup 🤩. The acting was fantastic, the twist at the end was unexpected and the scenes that did keep my attention were heart-stopping. A decent thriller!

Listening.

It had been a while since I listened to the Smartless pod, but they had me at Tom Hanks! Speaking of – these 10 Surprising Facts about America’s Favorite Actor are 🤯🤯.

Feeling.

Trying.

I could listen to her tell a story all day. She has impeccable timing and delivery, and I can relate to her anxiety so much 😳😅.

If you need a hostess gift this holiday season – I adore this ruffle pie dish and know your host will, too!

13 Starbucks hacks you might not know.

I can’t wait to send these for our Christmas cards this year 😍 – they grow wildflowers (and the company plants a tree with every purchase!). Thank you for the wonderful find, Deanna 💙

Did you see Oprah’s Favorite Things list?! We bought this 6 years ago as a family Christmas gift and it’s still a favorite!

These can be fun once in a while – your best day in November according to your sign.

Self care hacks that are completely free. Love 3, 6 & 8.

I’m not much of a true crime podcaster, but I sure love a good thriller in the form of a novel. Does it do more harm than good?

What do we think of the Sherwin Williams hue of 2022?

Eyeing these for the mantel!

I love this grandma’s etiquette rule.

Working to check off all of these during the month of November. Gratitude is such a superpower!

3 teas I swear by for wellness. 10/10 recommend!

This is how we donated our Halloween candy in case you have leftovers and want to do the same 🤗.

I learned a big lesson this week. Several, really. But one I felt compared to share with you in case it helps you "know what to say" when a person you love is grieving. When we told my brother that Boob passed away, he sent us a note with a few of his favorite memories of him. "Remember when he ate through the drywall in Chicago right before a showing?", "or the time when you were fostering him and he was trying to play with me crossing the street, but ended up taking me down in the middle of the road?!". Re-living fond (and funny) memories helped more than he imagined when he took time out of his day to send them. Getting the "I'm so sorry to hear. Thinking of you" texts are nice, but if you have a memory to share, know that it will help your person more than you know. 💙 And thank you for all of your kindness. It has been a hard stretch in the Nixon house - we feel your love and are so grateful for it!
