Sunday Scrolls: May 2nd

By Kaylea

You’re here! And boy, do we have a lot to share today. Sunday Scrolls is a compilation of everything we love, have made, used, tried, read, seen & done over the past week – and this week in particular, I tried to fill with extra joy jolts since it was kind of a rough one with a sick pup in the house. He’s on the mend, and we’re so excited to roll into May and a week of sunshine ahead! Let’s start with homemade lemonade – sharing our family recipe (Grey approved!), some fun new amazon finds, a $5 book you need in your life, and so many goodies. Plus, two giveaways going on – welcome to our house! Come on in:

Make It.

Today is National Lemonade Day! We love any reason to celebrate so we’re whipping up a fancy lemonade you can drink as-is, or spike to make it a sweet, summery cocktail ?:

  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 cups of water
  • bunch of fresh basil (adjust to taste)
  • small shake of salt
  • 3 T. monk fruit sweetener (or any sugar you like!)

Tear up your basil leaves to start and roll them around in your hands first to get the juices moving, then add them to the bottom of the pitcher and muddle. Pour in your lemon juice, and a *hint* of salt. (This helps enhance both the lemon and basil flavor, but don’t shake too much!) Then the sweetener of your choice. We’ve tried both monk fruit and agave nectar, both are terrific. Stir for a bit to get them married together. Before adding water, work on your candied lemons. This is easier than you think, and well worth it. It helps add flavor, but also a wow factor when serving to guests:

  • For the candied lemons, you’ll want to put equal parts lemon & sugar (or alternative) into a skillet on medium heat. We typically do 1/4 cup to 1/4 cup since we don’t do too many at a time.
  • Wait until the sugar dissolves, then add lemon slices. These come out best when they’re sliced thin (and make sure you’ve removed any stray seeds). Reduce a tiny bit to medium-low, and let them stay in that sugar bath for about twenty minutes.
  • Remove from the pan and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rest overnight. If you don’t have overnight, you can flash-freeze.
  • Pour the yummy syrup in your drink if you’re whipping up a cocktail, or store for another time. It tastes magical drizzled over waffles!!

Read It.

Five dollars. Remember I said I was trying to utilize the library more and cut down on how much I was spending on books? This gem, well, treasure, really, was $5. And unlike thrillers and beach reads, I love keeping a book of wisdom forever because I often reference back when I need a boost. This came highly recommended by one of my mentors and it did not disappoint. If you feel like you need to get back on your path, in any sector of your life, this will give you the tools to get there. Please know: this is not some new-age, woo woo self-help book. It shares truths that apply to all of us, and is beautifully shared with loving intent.

I feel so thankful to have read it, and to be able to share with you! I'm sending out a few copies to the Pack - to be entered to win one, please sign up for our newsletter via the pop-up on this site! THANK YOU!

Watch It.

Mark Ruffalo is such an underrated actor (IMO). He was absolutely outstanding in this movie. The fact that this was a true story made it especially difficult to watch in parts, but the acting was fantastic and there were many food for thought moments. You know what I’m talking about, where you watch or read something that makes you use a part of your brain you haven’t accessed in a bit, and then you have something new to pontificate with your partner or friends? I love that. I think you’ll feel the same ?.

Listen to It.

This was such a gift this week. Martha Beck’s thoughts on integrity were particularly special (I had never heard her definition of it before), and the episode was packed with perspective that felt so fresh and inspiring. I wrote down one of her quotes (see below) that felt especially impactful – and there were so many good ones. Well worth a listen on your next drive, or if you’re like me, when you’re getting ready in the morning.

Feel It.

Try It.

Inspiration personified ??: Three women share their later-in-life accomplishments. (we still have time no matter what age we are!)

We make so many smoothies in this house and I was starting to feel overwhelmed by all of the packaging from the protein powders and vitamin additives we use. A lot of times, the seal wears down, and if not closed properly, you lose half of the good stuff in the drawer. So, I ordered these, had a major dopamine hit decanting all of them ?, and am now the proud owner of an organized smoothie cupboard. PS – you can order in a smaller quantity but I wanted the 24 piece set so I could use them for the pantry and fridge too! The seals are the best I’ve found and I love the sticker and chalk marker to customize!

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head that just plays in a loop no matter how hard you concentrate on getting it out? Apparently, doing this will help.

These are the glass jars with lids and straws we used for our lemonade ??. We also use them every day for smoothies and whatever else we’re drinking. So fun!

10 easy things we can do to improve our relationship.

This is the last day of our Albion giveaway! Enter here ??.

A friend of ours gifted us these wines for Christmas (thanks Mr. Tom!) and we love them. The packaging is so clean and apart from being aesthetically pleasing, they taste clean. We used the bubbly ones in this sangria recipe we shared earlier in the week and wowowow was it good! In case you need to ship a gift – we recommend 10/10 ⭐️.

I’m not normally a big lace person but this popped up in one of my amazon searches and fit the bill for something I needed under a blazer. The quality is way better than I was expecting for the price, and the blue hue is gorgeous. So many colors to choose from!

Can’t wait to try this recipe for vegan whipped cream ?.

How do you feel you are at conversations? Better, or worse that you were pre-pandemic? It’s funny, I feel better if I’m talking over zoom, or even the phone. But in person? Terrible. This article had so many great tips to help. Can we do one together? What from the past is worth preserving? I’m going to go with family values.
