Sunday Scrolls: May 15th

Admittedly, I have a case of the Sunday Scaries with a side of dread for Monday. The trick I always tell Grey is, I’m not anxious, I’m excited! Research shows it does in fact work if you believe it to be true, so I’m going to drum up some mantras as soon as we’re through Scrolling. Jon has another surgery for the fingers he cut off back in December and the poor guy has been through the wringer. We’re all ready to have him healed and back to his Nonstop Nixon tendencies…not that he’s let it slow him down all that much (which may be why he’s back in the operating room 🧐). But first! Let’s taste test a post-workout recovery smoothie, a thrilling new novel, and a magnificent lineup of links to try:

Making.

Post-Workout Almond Joy Smoothie

This has been one of my favorite go-to’s after a workout for all of the incredible, restorative vitamins and minerals. Plus, it tastes like a TREAT! Here’s what we add, and how it aids with recovery:

  • 1 cup organic frozen cauliflower (high in antioxidants that reduce inflammation, rich in fiber, Vitamins C + K, and may aid in weight loss)
  • 1/2 cup vegan milk of choice
  • 3 T. Nutiva Superfood Superseed blend (chia, flax, omegas!)
  • 1 T. Almond Butter (make sure you’re using one that is JUST ground nuts and organic so they have not been sprayed with chemicals)
  • 1 t. Maca (fiber, amino acids, vitamins and minerals)
  • Blend well and top with shredded coconut + chocolate chips for added crunch and tastiness!

Watching.

If you’ve seen anything with Robin Wright, you know she is immensely talented. But seeing her in Land has me even more in awe. Not only does she star in this performance, but she directs it as well (her directorial debut). The scenery is spectacular, the emotions are gut-wrenching, and it is a deeply moving story about trust, and human resilience.

Reading.

The Golden Couple is the first novel I have ever “read” on audible. Boy did I miss flipping the actual pages of the book, and don’t think I will listen to another thriller via voice anytime soon. That being said, it is convenient to listen whilst driving, or doing chores around the house. I just felt like I missed the experience of seeing the words in front of me.

But back to The Golden Couple – if you are looking for a fast-paced beach read, it was a fantastically thought out thriller, and an interesting concept with the therapist, and the way the authors were able to weave the characters together in such a smart way. The only downside for me, was that if you have consumed quite a bit in this genre, you may be able to guess the ending 😕. All in all, I still recommend picking it up – you’ll struggle to put it down! 8.6 ⭐️

Listening.

I love when my favorite podcasts hit milestones where they compile the “best of” golden nuggets and snippets of episodes with key information. This particular Mind Body Green podcast covered all things longevity, and I learned so much from the experts they featured! Many of the protocols we can put in place to live longer (and more healthfully) are FREE and relatively easy to do. Well worth a listen!
