Sunday Scrolls: March 27th

I heard such a smart analogy this week and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. What if we looked at our life like a garden: took stock of the soil, the roots, the health of the plants – and pulled the “weeds” that were no longer serving us? Something to think about as we close out this month and look ahead to a new one. I’m working on that this week (both literally and figuratively), and I can’t wait to invite you inside Scrolls today to see the garden of goodness we’re trying to grow. We have a sweet + savory breakfast idea, an unbelievable book recommendation (that made my Top 3 of all time!), and an abundance of can’t-miss gems. We’re so happy you’re here!

Making.

I’ve been trying to get more creative with breakfast lately, and have been craving this savory + sweet toast on repeat. A few extra steps make it truly gourmet, and the combination of carbs + fiber + protein make it a meal that keeps you full even longer. It hits all the taste buds, and the layers of texture and flavor are next level good!

CARAMEL APPLE TOAST
  • Sourdough bread, pan-seared on both sides with EVOO (coconut oil would also be delicious!), sprinkled with sea salt and cinnamon.
  • Sauté 1/2 diced apple and 2 chopped dates with a swirl of maple syrup until soft and caramely (reserve the other 1/2 of the apple sliced thin for the top)
  • Thin schmear of organic almond butter on toasted bread
  • Top with sautéed fruit
  • Layer on thinly sliced apple
  • Crumble of homemade granola + slivers of Marcona almonds
  • Finish with drizzle of date syrup (we get the organic bottle from Trader Joe’s!) and sprinkle of sea salt + cinnamon

Watching.

The Adam Project is a great pick for family movie night. Sure, it’s a little out there with a side of cheese, but overall it’s a sweet story, and Ryan Reynolds is fantastic in it. If you’re looking for a mind break after a long week, this sci-fi time traveler is a fun one.

Reading.

Please read this incredible book. I feel so fortunate to have this space as a home to many of my favorite reads, and The Stranger in the Lifeboat is one that I know will stand the test of time. It isn’t salacious, or a page-turning whodunnit, nor is it a trendy beach read, or period classic. Instead, it is the most impeccably written, inspirational, magnificently moving stamp on your soul. I read half one night before bed, woke up thinking about it at 4am, and finished it before Jon woke up to make coffee. This book is an easy read that all of us can find something profound in – and the message at the end is an absolute gift.

10/10 ⭐️

Listening.

The brain types discussed in this episode made so. much. sense! And the expert featured has been my health guru this year – Dr. Daniel Amen – I have listened to every interview with him and always take away several golden nuggets that I can parlay to my own health journey. Well worth 20 minutes on a drive this week!

Trying.

The latest superbooster we’re adding to smoothies. If I’m being honest, I don’t eat these in their regular form. Maybe a texture thing? But the health benefits are !!!! : anti-inflammatory, great for brain, blood, and heart health, fights disease – and on and on and on. Blend with a frozen banana to disguise the taste!
