Sunday Scrolls: January 16th

Jan 16, 2022 | Sunday Scrolls

I read the most beautiful passage this week, referring to a day as a precious, unrepeatable gift. It gave me such pause to think about it that way. Of course we know it to be true, but when we stop and take that in, it feels so heavy. Also, immeasurably grateful, and we are blessed to spend part of that with you this Sunday. I hope what you find in Scrolls gives you a smile or two, some delicious inspiration for the week ahead, and the knowing that you have a friend who is sending lots of love your way today:

Watching.

Sing 2 blew. me. away! I thought the first one was OK, on par with a lot of the other animated films we watch with Grey. But I should add a disclaimer here: I’m not a big kid movie or Disney kind of gal. I don’t really love cartoons (and never was a fan, even as a youngster). However, Sing 2 was exceptional. The music was extraordinary, the costume design was so intricate, the sets and the colors and wowowow I don’t know a single human who wouldn’t be smiling through it. Add some joy to your day – it’s well worth the rental fee on prime, or the ticket to see it!

Reading.

The Wife Upstairs was a love-hate kind of novel. It is the kind of book you can get through in two nights before bed, a pretty easy/ quick read. I loved the character changes and plot twist that I didn’t see coming; but the dull spots were especially cringey, and certain elements made me feel like the author was trying too hard to be “on trend” with some of the Gen Z terms we see a lot of these days. Overall, a good escapist kind of mystery, but not one that will knock your socks off. 7/10 ⭐️

Listening.

A new-to-me podcast, and no matter which one you choose in their library, you can’t go wrong. You might be wondering why a 30-something would download a 70-something podcast, but I love learning new nuggets of wisdom, and finding better ways to relate to people I love. This series checks both boxes, and leaves you with the most wonderful feeling of hope.

Feeling.

Trying.

Do you know Boots O’Neal? Jon sent this interview to me (he knows how much I live for cowboy culture) and it made me miss my Grandpa so much. I feel like salt of the earth, hard-working, give you the shirt off your back kind of people are harder and harder to find these days.

As you saw up top, we started making our own oat and cashew milk – here’s how we store them!

These slippers are so beautifully made, and as warm as you’d imagine. They’d make a great gift!

We ran the gamut in terms of weather in Texas this week. 80 one day and 26 the next! Wherever you are, I hope you are warm, healthy, and joyful. If you're feeling down with January blues, do something thoughtful for someone you love. Studies show that instantly changes your state! I'm taking that advice and finding new charities to support this week - I'll fill you in next Sunday! XOXO, Kaylea, Jon and Grey
