Someone asked me (in a nice way ?) why I put so much time into these. The first answer is because it was the kind of blog I wanted to read, but couldn’t find anywhere, so that’s what got me started. But the real answer of why it kept going, and growing, is because of you. I’m here for the community that we built together. This week, with all of the direct messages I received, instead of thanking someone for a compliment, or replying with what they asked about (I did those too, of course), I asked about their day. How are you today? What are you up to right now? And as a result, I had the loveliest conversations with friends. It was refreshing. And a wonderful reminder of why I believe we’re all here – for each other, and for the community. All that to say, I did put a lot of hours into Scrolls this week ?, and I can’t wait to share these finds with you!! ??
Make It.
We’re in our thirties, and my Mom still sends us stockings for Christmas. I hope she can do those forever, because they’re filled with fun surprises, like socks…and booze ?. This particular booze, however, is especially fun, because it’s made right down the road from where we are from, in Phoenix, NY. Another small biz find is the most delicious ginger beer we have tasted yet – truly!
The recipe is easy (and so delicious)! I like to call it Small Boozeness SunYAY since it’s all about featuring those incredible small businesses like Lock 1 Distilling and SoCo Ginger Beer.
- 2 ounces of cinnamon whiskey
- 4 ounces of ginger beer
- juice of one lime
- optional garnish: sprig of rosemary, frozen fruit rolled in a mix of cinnamon and brown sugar.

I have been hitting the jackpot in the book department lately. But this one. Agh! This one blew me away. I started reading Verity as I was cooking dinner one night this week. Burned dinner. Ate it anyway and didn’t even taste it because I was that enveloped in her story. I made sure I finished it before bed, because I knew if I didn’t, I wouldn’t sleep. I wasn’t expecting a thriller from Colleen Hoover (she usually writes in romantic fiction), but now that she’s stepped into this genre, I am praying she stays. Not a blood and gore kind of mystery, but definitely a trigger warning if you have any type of child loss in your life ?. And just when you think you’ve come to the end, the author changes everything. It was a phenomenal piece – 9.8/10 ⭐️.
Watch it.
The word minimalist has become pretty catchy lately, especially this time of year when everyone is in a nesting/ purging/ organizing phase. But even with this fresh start energy, I will say, you have to be in the right headspace to start this show. There were several big moments where we looked at each other and said, wow. One of the jaw droppers- they shared some statistic about Americans who get two weeks of vacation time and never use it. (We haven’t taken one since 2015). And that void of time away from work is contributing to less healthy relationships, poor community building, and a host of other issues in our lives.
We were really into the experts they profiled, and facts they shared. Plus the overall motivation to take a good, hard look at what’s stuffed in drawers and closets around our own home. Also, the truth behind why we’re programmed to buy more, and how to recognize that before we click “buy now” on amazon. I could have done without the rehearsed storytelling from the main guys in the piece (even though their life stories were incredibly compelling). The takeaway was powerful and it was worth a watch, or a skim, if you’d rather speed through for the good parts.
Listen to it.
I haven’t seen anything new from one of my favorite gurus, Simon Sinek (one of the most viewed TED Talks of all time!!), in a bit. So I went down a rabbit hole of consuming his content to refresh my inspiration tank. This podcast covered so many incredible nuggets of wisdom:
Some of my favorites that I jotted down in my notes tab:
- “Passion alone can’t cut it. For passion to survive it needs structure. A why without how has little probability of success.”
- “Most of us live our lives by accident—we live as it happens. Fulfillment comes when we live our lives on purpose.” ((love this))
- “Of course money matters, but people matter more.”
- “I find, when you’re an optimist, life has a funny way of looking after you.”
- “We can’t judge a ship by how the crew performs in calm waters. We judge the ship by how the crew performs in rough waters.”
Feel it.
Try It.
You may have to find a reason to turn around on your next zoom meeting because the back on this sweater is all sorts of dreamy. And the front isn’t too bad herself ?. True to size and even cuter in person.
We haven’t been to Trader Joe’s in nearly a year ?, but look at this list of all of their new products this month. The Stroopwafel cake mix might be the push I was waiting for!
Right before we got married, my MIL gave us her best piece of advice: don’t become married singles. I think she’d like this one – The Marriage Term to Get You Through 2021, According to a Couples Therapist.

Jon says I don’t share enough finds for men ?? so here are two sweaters I grabbed for him to help spruce up his wardrobe and thankfully, they got his seal of approval. Size up for this one (I got it in black for a change!), and this runs true to size (went with Brown Bear Heather).
These are the Home Trends experts say are here to stay for 2021. This list is pretty vanilla, but I do love the mixed metals and cozy vibes ?.
I cannot get over how hard Half Baked Harvest works. And holy yum this whole page looks delicious: All The Healthy Recipes You Need for Healthy January.
Architectural Digest lets us in to the Gaines farmhouse. My only qualm is that we didn’t get a tour of the exterior, because those grounds are goals ?!
We finally put this on subscribe & save so I wouldn’t forget to reorder. It is the best tasting organic, vegan, superfood powder for kids. We either add it to Grey’s smoothie, or water bottle, and he loves it!
Don’t steal the hotel soaps if you won’t use them. Look at this initiative!
I know this week was heavy. We pray that the week to come brings you a sense of calm, peace, and love. XO - K, Jon, and Grey ?
