Sunday Scrolls: February 27th

We are so thankful to share this space with you today. One of the mantras we say to Grey each night, and whenever he’s overwhelmed, is: you are safe, you are healthy, you are so wonderfully loved. To remind him of the important things – and what we should truly be grateful for. It felt especially meaningful this week, as we worry deeply, and pray constantly for the people of Ukraine. I know Scrolls is a light-hearted, joyful space, and we love to keep it as a respite after a long week, but I also know this community has been having a lot of the same feelings that we have, and I couldn’t not acknowledge it. A big squeeze to you today. And an invitation to come inside and fill up your joy cup if it’s been feeling a little depleted:

Reading.

This has been on my must-read list for several years after an overwhelming amount of recommendations from people whom I love and admire deeply. I remember my yoga teacher in Chicago urging me to read it when I was pregnant with Grey, and for some reason, I chose this week to pick it up. I’m sure I waited so long because the text felt daunting. Maybe I just wasn’t ready. But it turned out to be the most outstanding, incredible compilation of timeless wisdom – beautifully laid out, and the intros to each chapter made it far easier to understand and absorb than I had imagined. If you’re looking to re-frame, re-shape, or re-imagine your life – please read this.

The Gita is the type of book you keep on your nightstand, and no matter what day, what month, what year – you can pick it up, and learn something new – despite reading it ten times before. 10/10 ⭐️

Watching.

One of my favorite parts about Scrolls is that one week we’re talking about the Anna Delvey story, and the next, mushrooms 😆. Though I use mushroom boosters in our smoothies, and occasionally on a vegan pizza or pasta dish, I had no idea how magnificent they were (and mind-blowing facts about how crucial they are to the life of our planet) before this documentary. Needless to say, after finishing this we stopped at Whole Foods and found some local Texas mushrooms to try tonight. All three of us watched together and learned so much!

Listening.

This podcast was so impactful, it helped me power through a 20 degree dog walk earlier in the week 😳🥶. No matter what stage of life you’re in, I know there will be a few takeaways you can use day-to day. I loved the piece about leading with warmth, then authority. Also her thoughts about teaching the importance of body language to our children, tips on how to spot a liar, and the power of social cues in communication (both in-person, and online).

Feeling.

Trying.

51 of the coolest airbnb’s in America. The treehouses are wild, but it’s the lighthouse for me.

Slowly swapping out all of our nonstick cookware (especially the old ones with the scratches leaking toxic chemicals 😩), and ordered this lovely loaf pan. Swooning for the scalloped edges – and the color choices! Then came across these sister pie dishes. This would make such a sweet hostess gift!

Ever since we became fully obsessed with Yellowstone, I’ve been manifesting a trip to Montana. Here are the most charming small towns in Big Sky Country.

Fellow perfectionists – take a minute for this test – it tells us if our high standards are a strength or limitation. So interesting!

This one was also eye-opening: The Difficult Person test 😳.

Have you tried this proven hair growth treatment yet? Here’s the one I use. Disclaimer: it doesn’t smell as lovely as you’d think, but my derm said it will be worth it, and I’m trusting in good faith!

I called my Grandma Judy the other day as she was en route to the clubhouse with homemade caramel corn for game night with their friends. She is 82 years young and I've never called to find her sitting down. I asked what her secret was - how is she still this healthy, full of life and energy, when many people her age are starting to decline? She told me that she decided a long time ago not to let the grass grow under her feet 😯, and that's the energy I'm taking into the week ahead. What's your favorite grandma-ism? I'd love to hear in the comments!

We hope you stay safe, healthy, and feel wonderfully loved this week. 💙

My gran still inspires me to this day! She sounds similar-she would just “do-“ work hard and make time for relaxing with a glass of iced tea and just “taking a rest” outside, too. She never complained and felt that if you work hard throughout the day, there is no need for the gym ( though she did do her nightly walks). We were outside ALL THE TIME, picked home grown strawberries and raspberries, and made great memories while doing all of it. So much of her “no nonsense” style bleeds into how I live and parent.
