Sunday Scrolls: April 24th

This was one of those weeks. Jon spent a night in the ER with another hand infection (remember when he cut his fingers off? Still hoping they stick after extensive surgery and several hospital trips 6 months later 😩), Gemma got spayed and we had some complications keeping her calm so it could heal, plus all the hullabaloo of everyday life. But as I send Scrolls your way this morning, we’re snuggling together on the couch with a piping hot Chemex, feeling deeply grateful for this day and all it brings. Whatever battle, big or small, you have been silently enduring – pain is temporary, and the pendulum is swinging back the other way soon. I hope this slice of your Sunday brings a sense of peace, and a respite from the rest of it. Today’s Scrolls is jam packed with JOY!

Making.

I can’t get enough matcha lately – it’s high in antioxidants, boosts brain function, can help protect the liver, decreases the risk of heart disease…and is a delicious way to start your day! It’s been a humid week in Texas, so instead of my usual hot matcha, I went with a refreshing pineapple twist. Here’s what I used:

See more recipes, here!
  • 1 cup of frozen pineapple blended well with a glass of water and juice of 1 lemon + optional date syrup or agave if you’re craving extra sweetness.
  • In your mug whisk 1/2 teaspoon of matcha with an inch or two of your vegan milk of choice. Whisk for as long as it takes to get it frothy.
  • Then pour over your homemade pineapple juice, reserving the froth for the top! Bonus points for a swirl of date syrup or sprinkle of cinnamon. I forgot those steps because I was too excited to try it! 10/10 ⭐️

Watching.

I am still in utter disbelief that this is Jared Leto. The man is surely aging in reverse and his acting is nothing short of incredible in wecrashed. Much like the other happened-in-real-life series’ we’ve binged in the past few months (Inventing Anna, The Tinder Swindler), I must be living under a rock because I was completely unaware of the backstory before watching. That said, we are fully invested in finding out what happens. And I’m here for the inside look at the trajectory of their relationship from start-up to billionaire status, to it crumbling around them.

Reading.

Lost & Found is a quick, lighthearted read covering grief, loss and love with the most unexpected characters and circumstances. I especially enjoyed how the author was able to weave together the perspectives of both young and old as they found ways to laugh through the pain and help each other along the way. If you’re in the mood for a heart-warming, humorous escape, this is a sweet one, but nothing ground-breaking that you’re missing out if you skip it. 7.7 ⭐️

Listening.

Do you read actual paper books, or do you prefer an electronic version? This interview is just shy of six minutes and it absolutely blew my mind. Ready for an incredible fact? Johann Hari shared the research around screen inferiority – and what they found is that 2/3 of what you read on a screen is not absorbed/ understood. (Food for thought as many schools are moving to iPads vs. textbooks). And another one 🤯: 57% of Americans will not read a single book (on paper or digitally) in a year’s time. Which fact surprised you most?!

Feeling.

Trying.

Levi’s just launched yellow denim and this is my springtime love language 🌼. Favorite purchase of the season (pictured above at Grey’s school carnival!).
