Sunday Scrolls: April 17th

Almost all of my favorite holiday memories are from Easter. Whether it was going on a “snake hunt” (none were ever harmed, just admired!) at my Grandma Judy’s farm, or enjoying the most delicious meal with my Grandma Shirley, Grandpa Darlin’, and the rest of our family at The Inn Between. We laughed so hard each year, they started seating us in our own room because of the noise 😅.

I hope your day today is filled with all things joyful, and if you aren’t with your people, delicious memories to hold you over. Scrolls has some sweet ideas to spice up your week – my go-to anti-inflammatory snack, a hopeful book, and a lengthy list of favorite finds. We’re SO happy you’re here!

Making.

HEART HERO CHIA PUDDING
See more recipes from our channel, here!

For the base – mix together & refrigerate for 2-3 hours:

  • 3 T. chia seeds (amazing source of omega 3’s, antioxidants and fiber!)
  • 1/2 cup Milkadamia milk
  • swirl of maple syrup
  • 1/2 t. vanilla
  • 1/2 t. cinnamon

After it turns from liquid to pudding, add these incredible toppings: well-blended for well-being!

  • 1 T. turmeric (potent anti-inflammatory – and may greatly benefit overall heart health)
  • 1/2 t. black pepper (to activate the healing properties of the turmeric!)
  • 1 t. ground ginger (fights chronic disease!)
  • 1/2 t. cinnamon (lowers blood sugar, great for gut health!)
  • 1/2 cup of blueberries (help lower blood pressure + cholesterol!)
  • 1/2 cup of strawberries (anti-inflammatory + great for cardiovascular health!)
  • 2 T. walnuts (Did you know walnuts are associated with a lower risk of heart disease and stroke?!)

Watching.

I have heard such wonderful reviews of this HBO event with Brené Brown. If you’re looking for a break from a mindless series, or drama, this is one that will have you looking at every layer of your life; analyzing, and making room for growth and change. It’s even more rewarding to watch with a partner and dissect the pieces together to forge new roads to connection.

Reading.

I may have mentioned before that I took a speed reading seminar with my Dad when I was eleven. I’m thankful every day for that skill, except when I’m reading a novel like A Little Hope. This is the kind of read packed with various characters and you follow their story, interwoven like a web, in the midst of all the other characters’ storylines.

It is wildly relatable, heartwarming, insightful and raw – a truly thoughtful novel that is exquisitely written. However, it isn’t one you should stretch out over a long period of time. It was a busier week for us, so I snuck my reading blocks into tiny chunks, versus the longer stretches I usually squeeze in after everyone else is asleep. It made it hard to remember who was who and how they related to each other. That being said, that was a me problem, and I still found it unbelievably moving to peel back the layers of neighbors and friends in this sweet little town, and I know this is one you will love, too. 8.9 ⭐️

Listening.

This popped up as a suggestion in my podcast library and I wasn’t mad about it. It’s been a lonnnng time since I watched the Today show and Hoda’s interview style and calming presence made it a worthwhile listen. She has guests on like Thomas Rhett, Kim Kardashian, Jenna Bush Hager, Mitch Albom, Oprah (!) and more. Plus, most interviews are around the 30 minute mark so it’s a quick listen on your commute.
