I am very much a believer in the one in, one out rule when it comes to bringing items into our home. If we buy something new, we donate/ recycle/ toss something old. It helps you to be more mindful when it comes to purchases; and with this purposeful practice, we don’t end up accumulating too much “stuff”. The best part? Studies show the state of your home reflects the state of your mind, and who doesn’t want to feel clean, organized, and joyful?! Here are 20 easy items you can toss right after reading today’s post:

  1. Expired food, medicine, and spices.
  2. Old/ dried out makeup, and long unused beauty products.
  3. Any clothes with holes or stains.
  4. Receipts/ bills/ paperwork you no longer need.
  5. Old wreaths and holiday decor that are damaged and worn.
  6. Paper manuals (don’t worry, you won’t use them and on the off chance you do, you can find them online).
  7. Broken and non-functioning electronics.
  8. Dead batteries.
  9. Take out menus.
  10. Chargers/ cords you don’t have a device for.
  11. Dried out pens and markers without caps.
  12. Old craft supplies you haven’t looked at in years.
  13. The ends of wrapping paper rolls (they take up so much room in the closet!).
  14. Anything in the junk drawer that serves no purpose.
  15. Shower clean-out to toss dull razors, nearly empty shampoo and conditioner bottles.
  16. Garbage in the car doors.
  17. Scratchy towels.
  18. Old pillows (they’re filled with allergens and no longer support your neck as they once did!).
  19. Loyalty or punch cards from stores you no longer frequent.
  20. Old underwear and socks (did you know after a year they harbor bad bacteria that can cause an infection?!).

What else would you add to this list? Let’s keep the suggestions going in the comments below! You are a Well of JOY and we’re so thankful you stopped by today. Happy purging!
