Happy National Parents’ Day (and National Aunt and Uncle’s Day)! I’m quite sure my mom will have no idea that today is for her, because I didn’t until five minutes ago, but isn’t it always nice to find ways to thank your parents? And now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder if we tell Grey today is a National holiday for moms and dads, he’ll be on extra fabulous behavior and we’ll have a Sunday Funday indeed?! No matter what kind of parent you are (fur, human, reptilian, plant) you are doing it beautifully. Mom’ing is hard and we’re glad you’re in it with us. PS – wait until you see the third find of the week, it is good.
Make It.
I know a lot of my friends with gardens have zucchini coming out their eyeballs right about now. I’m so jealous. I’ve never gotten sick of that sweet vegetable (or is it a fruit ?), especially in the form of zucchini bread. But THIS zucchini bread is the best I’ve ever tried. Perhaps because it’s of the snickerdoodle variety, and I’m here for all things cinnamon.
Watch It.
We may be late to the game on this one, but have you seen The Last Dance? While I wish each episode went chronologically rather than jumping around by decades; I love the story it tells, specifically relating to leadership. I have learned so much about reading people, relating to them as they are, and focusing on the team rather the individual. You can apply those lessons to anything in life. And Jon is in it for the nostalgia. I can’t imagine what it would have been like for a basketball-loving kid to grow up during the height of the game.
Read It.
Have you ever had something show up for you at the exact moment you needed it most? This was it for me this week. My friend Meg lovingly sent this parenting book my way and it is an approach I had not yet considered, but made absolute sense. It is a very quick read, and the author has it laid out in a way that is easily digestible and a fantastic resource to pick up and check in with as your child reaches new stages. Each chapter begins with a “personality quiz” checklist for your child, and it will quickly assist you in determining which type your kiddo identifies with.
I have always been interested in the enneagram for adults (I’m a 3, “The Achiever”, Jon is a 2 “The Helper”), so I have no idea why I never considered how it applied to kids! Grey is an 8 right now, “The Asserter”, with wings to 2, “The Helper”. Wagele’s insights on how to cultivate the good and rein in the not so good were game changers!
Feel It.
Taking it one step further; be the magic for others. And two steps further; know how blessed you really are when you have even one person in your life who does this consistently.
Try It.
What do you think about wallpaper in a kitchen? Surprisingly stunning!
This is the first thing I look for in a house. And did you know it can help you live to be 100 years old?!
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is coming! I had a chance to preview it, and there are some good finds peppered in there, especially for the chilly months (hopefully far, far ahead). So far I have my favorite pair of fall booties, these beauties, and this fabulous faux-leather trench on my wishlist! ((I’ll put together a What’s In My Cart with picks for the whole family this week.))
