Sunday Scrolls: Best Finds of the Week (Jan. 26th)

We’re always on the lookout for inspiring podcasts, great reads, or a new recipe to try out. So we thought it might be fun to share our favorites every Sunday, in hopes that one or two spark your interest to give a go in the week ahead. Also because, there’s no room for Sunday scaries when you’re looking forward to Monday motivation!

Podcasts. We committed to more dates in the New Year and while we haven’t quite made it out for dinner; we have made it to the gym together. This is pretty big for us – our first time in four years. Jon can watch TV on the elliptical for an entire hour (how?!), but I need my mind to be so active that it forgets I’m working out ;). This week I listened to Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations – the episode with Amy Schumer and also Joel Osteen. He’s such a polarizing figure but his talk on “I AM…” resonated with me in a big way! And if you’re looking for a lighter listen, I also loved Dax’s interview with Emilia Clark on the Armchair Expert. Hail, queen Dany!

Books. If you’re looking for a book you can’t put down, I cannot recommend this one enough (trust me, it lives up to the hype). The character development was written so well, I can’t shake the lead from my head. And at the complete other side of the spectrum, I have been loving this ancient advice for modern parents. They are quick snippets that make for easy reading, but then take a bit to digest. It has me totally rethinking my mom game.

Since the day we brought Grey home from the hospital, we’ve read at least five (kid) books a day. I was buying them on amazon & on our weekly trip to Costco (favorites linked here!), when I realized that we could have access to thousands of books, for free, at the library. I have no idea what took us so long, but this one was a clear favorite this week.

Outfit. Whether I’m putting together the design for a room, or just putting together my outfit for the day, I have been living for monochrome. Layering the same color just feels easier. It also lends to a more modern look, and feels more best foot forward than my usual sweater & jeans combo. PS – These boots have been a fast favorite – a fun leopard alternative (faux snake) and w a t e r p r o o f.

Recipe. Here’s a meatless Monday crockpot special for you! I feel like we have been craving allll of the comfort food lately with this chilly weather we’ve been having in Chiberia. It’s peak chili season and this one doesn’t disappoint. Have you ever tried a vegan white chili before?! Five stars and fantastic!

Quote. From the podcast we mentioned above, Pastor Osteen recommends using “I am’s” to change our story. This week we’re going to start each morning in the mirror with a list of I am affirmations, and see how it impacts our day. Here’s a few to get us started:

“I am grateful for all of my blessings”

“I am energized and excited for the day ahead”

“I am ready for any challenges that come my way”

“I am supported, loved, and worthy”

“I am confident, and have the power to make positive changes in my life”

and the one I need the most —–> “I am patient. I breathe in calm energy, and breathe out love.”

Thank you so much for taking time to do some Sunday scrolling with us! Will you share one of your favorites from the week in the comments below?
