I cannot tell you how excited I am for this new series on NixonPack. Part of the Pack is something I have been thinking about for a long while, and yet, listed out a million reasons why the timing wasn’t right, or the setup wasn’t *exactly* how I wanted it to be. But if this year has taught me anything, it’s that nothing will ever be the way we would perfectly design it to be. Life just doesn’t work that way. And that’s okay.
This series is a celebration of all of the incredible, empowering, and inspiring people in our life. The people I am so lucky to call friends. We have so much to learn from those around us and I have so many questions to ask. And since I ask them anyway, I thought what better than to share what I find with my favorite people – you, and this warm, cozy corner of the internet. Today is dedicated to learning more about ways to give back, a particularly meaningful topic with all of the loss this year.
Hello, Meg!
I invited my good friend Meg George, philanthropist and co-founder of George Development Group, to come on to talk about where the need is greatest given the impact of Covid-19, ways to involve the whole family in thinking of others, and how we can approach making our communities stronger.
Meg shared a perspective I hadn’t heard, or considered that was incredibly impactful:
“New this year, there is a real risk for the arts and culture industry especially. They have taken such a hit that they may not survive. If you enjoy culture, arts & performances, and want your kids to have exposure to them post-pandemic, I encourage you to explore donating to those worthy causes if you’re able.”
– Meg George, Philanthropist
What’s Next?
After all of Meg’s nuggets of wisdom, I am inspired to start a conversation at dinner tonight to nail down our family’s mission statement, and look for ways we can do more good in the New Year. There are so many wonderful, worthy organizations on a local and national level. Don’t feel like if you can’t give monetarily you can’t make a difference. Thanking a caregiver, offering to drive to an appointment, sending a greeting card, or merely just an act of kindness goes a long way.
If you have questions for Meg, you can read more about what they do in the non-profit world (and stalk her for a good book recommendation!) at georgedevgroup.com or @georgedevgroup on instagram.
THANK YOU for being here, and for being a Part of the Pack! I can't wait to share next week's interview with you. We're ready to ring in 2021!
