Do you have an extra 24 minutes today? Sure you do. Especially if you knew that’s all it takes to start your bathroom refresh, amIright? OK. I know it’s not *just* 24 minutes, it’s a whole lot more. But doesn’t that get you motivated? Here’s what else you need:
Supplies:
- Utility Knife
- Hammer (to get your anger out on the tile)
- Moving blankets (to protect your tub)
- Allen wrenches (to remove shower faucet)
- Contractor Bags
Jon’s #NixonPack Nuggets:
- Tub – No matter what material your tub is made of, cover it properly before you begin to prevent damage.
- Score – Use your utility knife where the ceiling meets the wall to help prevent pulling the corner joint off with the tile. This will save you from having to repair the ceiling. Ain’t nobody got time for that after your bathroom is looking tight and right.
- Speed – The fastest and easiest way to remove the tile is to resist the urge to go all Whack-a-mole on it, but instead concentrate your efforts vertically, ideally between two studs. By doing so, you should be able to remove the tile in larger areas, or even sheets. **this one is my favorite**
- Removal – Use extra caution when removing tile and backer board while around your water supply.
- Moen – Jon loves using Moen faucets because they all have the same guts inside. If something breaks, or you want to change out faceplates, he has found it much easier to work with than other brands.
- Contractor Bags – These are a must when hauling out debris. But be careful – don’t overfill them (like I tend to do) because your garbage people will also have to lift them into the truck. And I know you don’t want a nasty write-up.
- Bonus – Now that you have the walls open, are there any outlet receptacles or cable that you might want to relocate in an adjoining room? Ex. We have a TV on the other side with wires hanging down to the outlet. We’re going to move the outlet up higher so poof! no more visible wires.
- Nagging Wife Nugget – I highly recommend you wear safety goggles and gloves. Jon refuses and his hands look like he was in a fight…and lost.
Thanks for stopping by for the bathroom demo, friends. Follow along as we start the renovation!
